Festive Plastics
Just a quick blog update
today, to remind you of plastic over the festive period! Following my criticism of Michael Gove last week, there was this week's sudden announcement that Gove was ‘truly haunted’
by the plastic pollution within our marine environments; I must take full
credit for this announcement, surely?

I just wanted to bring to
you all the interesting case of the picturesque west coast village of Aberporth,
which came to light this week, following its aim to become the first single-use plastic free area in Wales. The
small community seeks to tackle the culture of disposability within our
society through the reuse of items: including switching from plastic to glass bottles. Aberporth’s
plastic experiment follows the Devon town example of Modbury, which outwardly banned plastic bags when shopping, over a decade ago. These local communities help show us that innovative
solutions are potentially the starting point for tackling disposability within our society.

Hi Miles,
ReplyDeleteHow very festive indeed! How likely do you see Aberporth’s example ever spreading to other regions in Britain?
Hello Mari! Gove and plastics seemed the two most festive things possible ! I likely foresee Aberporth’s example slowly growing across the UK, if the results are successful! Local emergent solutions appear, I believe, the starting point for addressing disposability within our society!
